It is designed to be much finer and moisture retentive than our other mixes and is compatible with all plant types. The components in this mix provide seeds and seedlings with an ideal physical structure ensuring adequate water retention, ideal oxygen flow, as well as excellent drainage.

Note in the comparison image the material looks quite different when bagged dry vs. damp. We will try to dry most batches when we can so it keeps that more distinctive look, but if it all looks dark, rest assured it’s the same recipe and performs the exact same! It’s just bagged damp, right after mixing sometimes. 😊

Our core chunky & gritty mixes are built for more robust root systems, but this mix is compatible with all plant types that might need to be started from seed/cutting. Because it is more moisture retentive, you may see color variation bag-to-bag (we still mix and bag by hand!).

WHAT’S IN IT

Coconut Husks, Calcined Clay, Hardwood Biochar, Earthworm Castings

*Note: This mix also works well blended 50/50 (or less) into any of our other mixes for a finer, more water retentive hybrid mix.
